Rural Health Care: Heads Up Rural HCP's—It's Almost June!

By

June doesn’t just signify the start of summer—it also signifies that time of year for eligible rural health care providers (RHCPs) to finalize and submit their applications for Rural Health Care (RHC) program funding.

Each year, the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) makes $400 million in Rural Health Care program funding available to health care providers located in rural areas to use for telecommunications and Internet services. However, according to USAC, only $81 million was granted in 2011, due in large part to a lack of program awareness. We want all of our eligible HCP customers and prospects to take advantage of the RHC program!

With RHC discounts, qualifying rural health care providers can save significantly on a variety of telecommunication services including DSL, Ethernet, fiber, Internet access charges, MPLS and telephone service (such as T1 or T3)—any eligible service used in provisioning telehealth or telemedicine. Providers can use the discounts on their current telecommunications and Internet services, upgrade to more advanced solutions or even install new and improved technology.

At Windstream, we know the challenges that healthcare providers face today, such as medical error reduction, efficient practice management, asset and resource tracking, patient privacy requirements, patient data storage, government regulation compliance and limited financial resources—all while maintaining and improving the quality of patient care.

These challenges are often compounded by the unique circumstances that face healthcare providers practicing in rural America.  Economic factors, potential insurance or financial concerns, as well as the sheer isolation of living in more remote areas all contribute to the pressures HCPs face when trying to deliver quality, patient-centric care. With RHC funds, the financial burdens are eased a bit, knowing that expenses associated with telemedicine technologies aren’t an additional stressor.

As an approved service provider for USAC programs, we have extensive experience working with rural HCPs, providing the services they need in order to operate effectively and efficiently—benefiting their patients, physicians, and staff every day. Our customized solutions allow our HCP customers to bring state-of-the-art voice services, networking solutions, and high-speed Internet access to their administrators, physicians, staff, patients and visitors.

Eligible health care providers must apply by June 2 to receive a full 12 months of funding for the 2013 funding year (July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014). RHC program applications are accepted year round but after June 2, financial support is pro-rated based on the date of the application.
