OmniSource Southeast is a leader in the scrap metal industry with more than 50 years of experience, processing over 1.5 billion pounds of metal per year. Headquartered in Spartanburg, SC, the company employs 900 people in 29 different locations throughout NC, SC, GA, TN, and VA.

But OmniSource Southeast’s growth isn’t their only opportunity. Every enhancement they have made over the last 50 years has been to bolster their overall customer experience. So, it’s no surprise that they decided to look at Windstream when it came time to make a decision on a communications solution for their business.

The Challenge

When trucks arrive hauling scrap metal, specialized software tracks and prices the metal with up-to-the-minute pricing. That data is then communicated across locations to keep each location up to speed.

Business owners needed a more effective way to communicate across their footprint. They needed a solution that would be flexible and scalable, making it easy to layer services as their network continues to grow.

The Solution

Windstream ’s MPLS Networking Solution immediately went to work for OmniSource Southeast. This solution allows data traffic to pass between 29 locations over an MPLS backbone.

OmniSource Southeast has also added an additional 100Mb of bandwidth using Windstream’s Ethernet solution, which will accommodate their newest facilities.

Windstream has provided OmniSource Southeast with an upgraded framework for an entirely new type of network, which lends itself to be layered upon and expanded as their business continues to grow.
